Library

The library holds over 60,000 volumes of books and periodicals. Its book collection is dominated by the history of sailing and shipbuilding, as well as literature on the navy and warfare at sea, especially during World Wars I and II. The journalism of the interwar period, inspired by Poland’s regaining of the coastline and the construction of Gdynia, is richly represented. The development of the post-war maritime economy is abundantly documented in magazines and specialist literature. The library’s collection also includes numerous publications related to ship modelling. The pride of the library are rare in Poland yearbooks of “Lloyd’s Register of Shipping”, as well as 19th century “Morskoj Sbornik”.

The library subscribes to Polish and foreign journals, among which can be distinguished such as: “Nautologia”, “Morze, Statki i Okręty”, “Żagle”, “Modelarz”, “Namiary na Morze i Handel”, “Pomerania”, “National Geographic. Poland”, “Polish Maritime Research”, “Mariner’s Mirror”, “Model Shipwright”, “Neptunia”, “Schiff und Zeit”, “Sea History”, “Studies In Conservation”.

The books of the NMM Library can only be used in the reading room. It is possible to take photographs of the collection with the reader’s own equipment and only for the reader’s personal use.
