VISTULA LAGOON MUSEUM

Located right next to the harbour in Kąty Rybackie, the branch of the National Maritime Museum in Gdańsk holds a collection of artefacts related to the history of fishing and boatbuilding on the Vistula Lagoon. The exhibition, housed in a studio warehouse hall, presents traditional fishing boats, boat-building tools and equipment. Visitors’ attention will undoubtedly be attracted to sail-powered ‘barkas’ boats, smaller ‘żakówka’ boats, fishing tools from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as elements of the historical boatbuilding workshop of the Schmidt family from the village of Łaszka near Sztutowo. The exhibition is enriched with: ice fishing tools, ropemaking machines and reminiscences of former fishermen. The Museum is also a space for educational activities related to the history of fishing, boatbuilding and ropemaking, as well as thematic temporary exhibitions.
