Education

Centrum Konserwacji Wraków Statków

National Maritime Museum’s Education Department proposes a wide range of lessons and workshops for pupils and younger children in our Tczew branches: Shipwreck Conservation Centre and the Vistula River Museum.

In addition to the possibility of exploring the wonderful collection of NMM relics and observing the Museum’s conservators at work, we offer numerous events and lessons as well as workshops with use of the interactive educational stations. We expect that controlling the underwater robot will be the most popular attraction. Shipwreck Conservation Centre activities are connected to the subject of the conservation of the relics from shipwrecks, underwater archaeology and the history of Polish sailing. While classes at the Vistula River Museum will be connected to the rich history of navigation and trade on our beautiful river. The offer also includes lessons and games, organised in both divisions, during which participants will learn about the examples of boats used on the Vistula as well as the reconstruction methods and will have a possibility to “swim” on a ship through the river, using the interactive stations.

Educational offer is constantly supplemented and modified, and for special occasions (summer holidays, school breaks, Museum Nights) a special program is prepared. We also invite you to lectures, talks, workshops and film screenings. We aim at popularising the idea of the open Museum so we want to ensure close collaboration between educators and teachers, whom we will invite for recurring meetings and workshops in order to constantly improve the educational offer for children and youngsters.

Centrum Konserwacji Wraków Statków

Educational program of the Shipwreck Conservation Centre is aimed at:

  • kindergartens and primary schools, secondary schools and above
  • individual visitors and families with children
  • organizations promoting sailing

One of the main attractions of the Shipwreck Conservation Centre, also dedicated for the educational purposes, is the augmented reality (AR) – technology used by cultural institutions all around the world. Using the mobile app “Yachts and wrecks” – a virtual guide around the Centre – you can see the multimedia presentations on historic yachts and Baltic wrecks. For the youngest we have prepared a special educational games, allowing them to roleplay the character of a captain on a big passenger ship, a raftsman floating grain on the Vistula to Gdańsk or a boat builder constructing the medieval sailing ship. Special tests that can be found on the Virtual Museum website will help in solidifying the knowledge acquired in the course of educational activities in the Vistula River Museum and Shipwreck Conservation Centre, in a very friendly way presenting issues related to the conservation process, underwater archaeology, history and geography of the Gdańsk coast.
