2 Ships – Common Sea. Sołdek and Vityaz: Maritime Heritage of Poland and Russia

In September 2019, we started the project ‘2 Ships – Common Sea. Sołdek & Vityaz: Maritime Heritage of Poland and Russia’ (“2 Ships– Common Sea. Sołdek and Vityaz: Maritime Heritage of Poland and Russia”) co-funded by the European Union within the Poland-Russia Cross-Border Cooperation Programme 2014-2020.

>The project partners include Museum of the World Ocean in Kaliningrad – Lead Beneficiary, National Maritime Museum in Gdańsk and Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University in Kaliningrad.

Priority axis: 1. Cooperating on historical, natural and cultural heritage for their preservation and cross-border development.

Thematic objective: Promotion of local culture and preservation of historical heritage

Project duration: 10.09.2019 – 09.09.2021

Funding: project co-funded by the European Union and the Russian Federation within the Poland-Russia Cross-Border Cooperation Programme 2014-2020

Project total costs: 2 067 696.76 EUR, including co-funding from the Poland-Russia Cross-Border Cooperation Programme 2014-2020 – 1 860 927.08 EUR (90% of eligible costs)

Total budget of the Museum of the World Ocean amounts to: 1 222 362.79 EUR, including the amount of project co-funding from the Poland-Russia Cross-Border Cooperation Programme 2014-2020: 1 100 126.48 EUR.

Total budget of the National Maritime Museum in Gdańsk amounts to: 780 594.00 EUR, including the amount of project co-funding from the Poland-Russia Cross-Border Cooperation Programme 2014-2020: 702 534.60 EUR.

Total budget of the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University amounts to: 64 740.00 EUR, including the amount of project co-funding from the Poland-Russia Cross-Border Cooperation Programme 2014-2020: 58 266.00 EUR.

Project main objective: to preserve the historical heritage and to promote the local culture of the cross-border regions through the preservation of “Sołdek” and “Vityaz” museum-ships and the creation of permanent exhibitions promoting knowledge of shipping and maritime transport.

The project involves: renovation of museum-ships: Sołdek and Vityaz, creation of new permanent exhibitions “Sołdek and its Times” and “The Epoch of Vityaz”. In Gdańsk and Kaliningrad, an artistic plein-air will be held, followed by an exhibition presenting its works; moreover, “The Epoch of Vityaz” conference will be held, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Museum of the World Ocean, as well as international seminars and maritime workshops for students in Poland and Russia.

The project is a platform aimed to strengthen the cross-border cooperation and, first of all, will become grounds for the future educational, museum and tourist activities. The museums will develop their offer drawing on the experience gained during the project, consequently strengthening the cross-border region tourist potential.
