1st Baltic Maritime Museum Seminar

On September 4th and 5th, 2012 an international meeting of maritime museum staff will be held at the Polish Maritime Museum in Gdańsk. Developing a model of permanent cooperation between Baltic maritime museums will be its main objective.

The 1st Baltic Maritime Museum Seminar aims at determining if museums need permanent cooperation, exchange of information, joint academic activities and exhibitions. The Polish Maritime Museum in Gdańsk has invited the most important maritime museums of the Baltic Sea area.

Apart from the planned discussion on future permanent cooperation, an academic seminar on ships-museums, problems related to their maintenance, exhibition and commercial usage will also be organized. Over 20 specialists from all Baltic countries have confirmed their participation in the meeting. Eric Kentley, a British specialist who has participated in the recently completed renovation of “Cutty Sark” in London and revaluation of the exhibition venue of this historical ship, will be a special guest. The seminar will be held in the new CMM department, in the Maritime Culture Centre in Gdańsk.
